Best Father’s Day Gifts

Father’s day is right around the corner. This year it was a little harder than usual to figure out what to get my dad. He already has everything that I would get him, so I had to get really creative. I decided to purchase him a day at the golf course, but the thing that makes it most special is that I will be playing with him. My dad loves when we play golf together which we hardly every do anymore.

If you are having the same dilemma with what to get your dad this year, below are a few more ideas that I thought about doing:

Fathers-Day-Gifts

  • Weekend road trip to the beach.
  • Digital photo album with photos already uploaded.
  • iPod with all his favorite songs already purchased.
  • Taking him shopping for new clothes.
  • Taking him to the track to drive a fancy car.

What are you doing for your father this year?

June 19th The Dallas Symphony presents a Night of Comedy with Whoopi Goldberg.

The show starts at 8:00p.m. The tickets are starting at $45. Whoopi Goldbery is a Grammy, Oscar, Tony, Emmy and Golden Globe winner. I love Whoopi Goldberg! I can’t wait to go see her live. My favorite movie she did was Sister Act. I’ve also watched some of her stand up comedy on television which was hilarious.

Where Would You Road Trip-It?

I was doing my morning reading and found this article on the top places to take road trips in America. The places ranged from California to Montana to Georgia to Hawaii. Below are the top 5 that I picked:

  • Big Sur, California – It’s about 90 miles along the central coast from San Simeon to Carmel. It is sandwiched between the Santa Lucia mountains and the Pacific
  • Hana Highway, Hawaii – Driving Maui’s serpentine Hana Highway on the rural east side of the island provides a feel for Hawaii’s real beauty.
  • Million Dollar Highway, Colorado - It’s a 24-mile stretch of the U.S. 550. It takes people back in time to when the West was still wild. You will find wildflowers during the spring, sustains elk, mountain goats, black bears, and deer.
  • Seward Highway, Alaska – This compact swath encompasses boreal forests, mammoth glaciers, and majestic fjords.
  • Sonoma and Napa Valleys, California – Road trips through the neighboring valleys of Sonoma and Napa can be a very diverse if you want it to be.  There are historic spots and quiet nature alongside the luxury standouts, so you can enjoy the best of both worlds.

Out of all of these I would pick Hana Highway, Hawaii. The famous road, also called the Road to Hana, starts in the town of Paia (about a 40-minute drive from Maui’s more developed southwest area) and winds down the east coast for 60 miles. I love the water and rain forest that are along the way.

If you had a choice which road trio would you take?

5 Simple Tips to Clean Your Bathroom Less

May 12, 2010 by Nisha

The one thing I hate cleaning is the bathroom. I don’t mind scrubbing the kitchen wiping the blinds down, or vacuuming. I don’t know why, but the bathroom is not my thing. I ran into this awesome article on Yahoo! about easy tips so that you can clean your bathroom less often. My top 5 tips that I picked out of the list are:

  1. Use liquid body soap instead of a bar. The liquid soap will reduce the soap build up on your shower walls and the drain.
  2. Shake or “punch” your shower curtain after you have gotten out of the shower. This will help reduce mildew buildup.
  3. Swish your toilet every day without using a cleaner. By just taking a minute to swirl your toilet brush you can increase the time in between cleanings by a week or more.
  4. Keep a small hand held, battery operated vacuum in the bathroom. Vacuum up hair and dust quickly and you can skip a few more days before you have to wash it.
  5. Shake your area rugs out daily. Just a quick shake will remove the hair and keep the rug looking clean.

All of these do take up extra time daily, but it beats waiting until everything is built up and you are stuck with cleaning dirt, hair and mildew all together.

Do you find these tips useful?

What to Get Mom?

I have been slammed this week, so I have not had the chance to go out and buy a present for my mother yet. I didn’t even know where to start. I was doing my morning reading and found this article that was on GQ about Mother’s Day gifts.

There were some very helpful suggestions. Below is a list of the gifts that I am thinking about buying my mom:

  • Yoga Mat by Stella McCartney. My mom was done Yoga a few times, but swears she is going to do it regularly, so I figured this would give her the extra motivation.
  • Magisso Cake Server. This server cuts cakes perfectly and grabs the slices, so you don’t have to worry about creating a mess. My mother is always having house parties, so this would be very useful.
  • Racerback dress. My mom always talks about how she loves my Maxi dresses. Now she can have her own.

What are you getting you mother this year?

Everyone Wants Bliss

I have been researching ways to re-decorate my place. I found this great article on Yahoo! about boosting the bliss in your home. I found the suggestions to be very helpful. I am very big on having the right atmosphere and energy where I live. I want to come home to a place that feels welcoming and relaxing.

Below are some of the ideas that I really liked from the article:

  • Soothe with senses. Add candles and fresh cut flowers in each room. Pick a scent that is light.
  • Add color. Lights blues, greens, and pinks. Keep the wall an eggshell color to keep it from looking like a nursery.
  • Balance the scales. Make sure all your furniture is not on one side of the room. Even it out, this will help your place flow a lot better.

What are some other suggestions you have?

“Reasons to Be Pretty”

Tuesday, Apr 27 7:30p at the AT&T Performing Arts Center: Wyly Theatre

The Dallas Theater Center’s cycle of Neil LaBute dramas, which it is calling The Beauty Plays, is turning out to be one of the theatrical events of the year. The Theater Center says the biggest trend in ticket sales is people wanting to purchase tickets to watch the show for a second time.

“Reasons to Be Pretty” is about a woman who takes offense when her boyfriend mentions a co-worker’s pretty face. It was nominated for a Tony Award for best play on Broadway last season.

This sounds like it’s a great show!

Earth Day is coming up! All the excitement around Earth Day has really got me in the mood to do something to acknowledge the holiday. I have been searching for ways to celebrate Earth Day that don’t take up much time and I will feel good about doing. After searching around for a bit, my 5 favorite celebration suggestions are:

  1. Earth Day

    Earth Day

Bike to work – I live way too far for this one.

  2. Use less energy – I will make an extra conscious effort to turn the light off if I am not in a room and shut my computer down at the end of the night.
  3. Bring your lunch to work – I already do this one.
  4. Exercise outdoors. I usually train indoors with my trainer, but I am going to ask him to switch it up tomorrow.
  5. Don’t eat meat. I am a vegetarian, so this is a given.

What will you be doing to celebrate Earth Day this year?

Bugs Bunny on Broadway

Bugs Bunny on Broadway

Yes, you read that correctly; Bugs Bunny is On Broadway. The Dallas Symphony Orchestra is celebrating the Warner Bros. classic Looney Tunes on the big screen while the scores are performed live by the DSO.  This is created and conducted by George Daugherty.

There is going to be tons of fun and laughter. It’s an exciting event for the entire family. I don’t have children, but I remember watching the show growing up so I am excited about going to see it on Friday night.

The show starts at 8pm. You can purchase tickets online at DallasSymphony.com.
